Add some power with better protein

Hello Hitter’s, Here is a short list of quality proteins for optimum performance.

Your nutrition is the most important aspect of your game. It is one of very few variables that you can control. You can’t control the pitch being thrown, the location and speed, or the umpires call, but you can control what you put in your body.

Proper nutrition is the pinnacle of my “Move Better. Feel Better. Play Better” philosophy. Many people have a very hard time eating properly.
Here are 5 quality protein sources that you CAN incorporate into your diet tonight.

1. Chicken/Turkey Breast
2. Almonds
3. Salmon/Haddock
4. Organic Eggs (my new favorite!!)
5. Tuna

Of course there are several other great sources, but try to get all of these or at least some of these into your regular diet now. They are readily available and can be eaten at all times of the day.

BONUS- here is the best “done for you” nutrition program around. This is so fool proof, even I can follow it. Remember, any “change” to your lifestyle will take at least 4-6 weeks to yield results, so whatever you plan on trying, give it a chance.

Add some power to your game with quality protein!

Concentrate at the plate

Hello Hitter’s,

Concentration is the 2nd of my 5 essentials to hitting. Without the ability to concentrate and focus, no athlete can compete on a daily basis.

Baseball, at the Major League Level, takes maximum concentration. The pitching is good every night, which requires you to be sharp every night. Day-in and day-out, from Spring Training to the end of October you must be mentally focused. Your job and playing time depend on it.
The player who jumps to mind when I think of concentration is Andre The “Hawk” Dawson. Every season, every day and every at-bat, the Hawk was locked-in and focused. It seemed that nothing could get him off his game. Baseball was his job, and he took every single second of it seriously.
Even when he struggled (which was rare) he was on top of his game. There is no doubt in my mind that Andre Dawson should be elected into the baseball Hall of fame! To be a successful hitter, you must be able to block out all distractions- all the time. You can’t take a bad at-bat with you into the field, and you can’t dwell on a poor game. Andre could do that better than anyone. He had a very short memory when he made a mistake or had a bad at-bat. He would re-focus and get his concentration back quickly.  Baseball is just as much a mental game as it is a physical game.
When your concentration is off, your game is off. It’s that simple. Mark McGuire used to say “Focus on one thing when the pitcher is about to throw the pitch, and that focus should be on the ball.” Mark used to take a soft focus on the pitcher and hard focus on the ball and release point.
A good way to make sure you are locked- in during every at-bat is to step out of the box if the pitcher holds the ball more than 5 seconds. Pitchers will hold the ball on you to get you thinking and distract you.  Ask for time-out and step out of the box. Re-focus, just like a golfer goes through their pre-shot routine.  As I always say, “Stay Focused”  learn to concentrate, and you will have more success at the plate. Good concentration is a huge part of being Conditioned to Hit!

The FIVE C’s of Hitting

Hello Hitter’s,

I’m excited to announce that “Conditioned to Hit” has added hundreds of viewers since I first posted the five essential “C’s”. Those of you who have seen this already, it’s a great review. For those of you who haven’t read this yet, ENJOY!

I’m going to be covering my FIVE Essential C’s of Hitting. All hitters should review these often!

The First “C” of Hitting

CONFIDENCE
If you lack confidence it will be impossible to become a good great hitter. All successful athletes have confidence. You must do everything you can to learn the proper fundamentals of whatever aspect of the game you are trying to perfect. You will learn so much from this website on hitting, which in return, will help give you the confidence you need to become a great hitter. Knowledge=Confidence!

The most confident athlete and hitter I have ever worked with in my coaching career at the Major League level was the St. Louis Cardinal’s all star and MVP, Albert Pujols.
In Albert’s rookie year, he told me that he would become one of the best hitters in baseball someday. He spent hours and hours working on the basic fundamentals of hitting; from soft toss, batting- T work, machine work and live batting practice. Albert asked me question after question about the art and science of hitting……EVERYDAY! Albert never stopped asking questions.
I would throw him every pitch I could, from fastballs low and away, curve balls, hard stuff up and in and even knuckle balls. He would ask me how to approach every single pitch from his legs  up to his follow through. (Your legs are so important to hitting. Click here for more)
I have never seen such a student of the game. He never stopped working. Albert rose from class “A” ball in the Midwest League to becoming the 2002 National League Rookie of the Year. Albert believed in himself inside and out. He was filled with confidence in his ability to learn and ask questions. The more time and energy he put in, the more confident he became. Now look at his career!
I love him like a son and the key essential to his success is CONFIDENCE!

What a Pitcher is Thinking

Hello Hitters,

How would you like to know what a pitcher is thinking on every pitch, every inning and in every count? Statistically, pitcher’s have the advantage over the hitter. They know what they will throw, how fast and where it will go.

I have always regarded pitcher’s as the enemy. It was me against him. I wanted to beat the opposing pitcher anyway I could.

I’ve now consulted with the enemy! My friend and professional pitching coach, Rick Smith, gave me all the insight a pitcher has. Rick was my pitching coach when I managed the Nashua Pride in the Atlantic League. His information was invaluable to me.

I’m now going to reveal everything about a pitcher….how they think, how they want to control every aspect of the game, what they want to throw to get you out.

When you purchase “Conditioned to Hit”,  I will personally send you coach Smith’s book about pitching. All you have to do is forward your receipt to support@conditionedtohit.com after you purchase “Conditioned to Hit”.  That’s is. Simple.

Finally get the advantage over pitchers and really become dangerous at the plate!

Order your copy of “Conditioned to Hit”, forward your receipt to support@conditionedtohit.com and I will personally send you “Pitching, How to Get Hitters Out”

Stay Focused and destroy pitching!

Recover from a bad game

Hello Hitters,

It’s going to happen. We will all have bad days at the plate. One great way to erase the game from your mind and memory is to relax and go through a recovery type workout after the game. You can stretch, get a massage or self-massage with a foam roller.  While going through a post-game recovery workout, relax your mind and focus on the next day. Visualize who is going to pitch and how they are going to attack you at the

plate. See yourself performing in a big situation. Picture success in your mind while you recover after a bad game.

Top 5 Baseball Body weight Exercises

Hello hitters,

All good strength programs must change during a season. A program will change depending upon the length of season, time of year, how often you play (starter or reserve) phase of program and goal of program.

Right now, most High School and Colleges are finished with their seasons. Workouts will be mostly recovery based and the volume and intensity will decrease as well. Most programs will take a week off (or even two) before getting ready for next season.

No matter what time of year it is, body weight exercises are always a good option. You can use them for recovery purposes, or add speed and volume for a more intense workout.

Here are 5 great bodyweight exercise for you:

1. Squats (single leg and two legged)

2. Planks- always a great low-impact core exercise

3. Jumps- jumping is a great way to add strength and power

4. Push Ups-an old school exercise that will never go away!

5. Sprints- Vary the distance and rest time

Check out these other all purpose bodyweight exercises.

As always, check with your physician before beginning any type of exercise program.

A strong hitter is a dangerous hitter.

See you in the batting cages soon…..

In-Season Exercise

Hello Hitters,

Many Parents have asked me what their kids can do to get stronger during the season. when I get those types of questions I go straight to professional Strength Coach, Brandon Smith.

“ I’m going to tell you why the Deadlift is one of the best exercises you can do during your competitive season.

  1. It’s one move with multiple muscles being used (we call this a multi-joint movement). The lower body, mid-section and upper body all get a benefit from the deadlift. Your Hamstrings, Quads, Hips and Butt obviously have to work pretty hard, but as you look closer you will see that your lower back, upper back, shoulders and even your forearms are getting hit pretty good too.
  2. Because the deadlift is a multi-joint movement, it can be done if you are pressed for time. Kids have school, homework, practice and time to be a kid to contend with. Only have 30 minutes to workout? No problem! Spend some time with the deadlift and you will see gains in strength and power, plus stability (lower back and abs must stabalize during the movement).
  3. The deadlift can be done using a barbell, holding dumbbells or any weighted object such as a Medicine Ball, leaving you no excuse not to try them!

Training your body with big movements is time efficient and multi beneficial.

Remember, please seek advise from your physician before attempting any type of physical exercise.

Don’t drink the poison

Hello hitters,

I hope you’re well.

The game of baseball is long and played outside in the hot summer. I know many of you are looking for an energy drink to get you through all 9 innings.

The problem with Energy drinks is they work by stimulating your CNS (central nervous system). This is what gives you that burst of energy and a nasty crash. The main ingredients are caffeine, B12 and massive servings or sugar. these are not exactly good for you, nor do they produce the kind of sustained energy you want.

I have a much better option for you. Click HERE and take ACTion!!

You Can’t Hit if You Sit

Hello Hitters,

I can’t tell you how excited I am that Spring Training is here and people are gearing up to hit!

I can tell you that not taking care of your body will put you on the fast track to injury. We don’t want that because You Can’t Hit if You Sit! You can’t play up to your potential if you are injured. An injury will also cause you to compensate your swing and your mechanics….most likely sending you on a “dry spell” at the plate!

My friend, Brandon Smith and professional Strength Coach talks about two things when we give hitting clinics, and those two things are Recovery and Pre-Hab.

Recovery is what you do for your body after a game or work out, and pre-hab is what you do for preventative measures during workouts. Now, I can’t tell you that you will never get an injury…that wouldn’t be true, but I can say that you can decrease the likelihood of injury and the time that you will miss because of them.

Of course, the most common injury site for baseball players is the shoulder. You must have healthy shoulders to hit! You must spend ample time during your off-season, pre-season and in-season to make sure your shoulders function properly.

Brandon has had great success with “Secrets of the Shoulder” and wanted me to tell you about it.

This is a program that all baseball players Athletes, should be on.

Remember, baseball is a sport where “overuse” injuries are common. Unless you play one inning right handed, and the next inning left handed, you are open for an injury.

Check out secrets of the shoulder and get an advantage on the competition. Stay healthy and get more opportunity at the plate!!

Line Drives on My Mind

Hello Hitters,

Now that Spring is here and position players have reported to camp, it’s officially time to hit.

If you are going on vacation or spring break to watch some spring training baseball, make sure you get to the park early and study the hitters during batting practice.

Every guy is working hard on some aspect of his game. This is the time of year where guys are mentally getting locked in. Watch how guys prepare to get into the cage. Watch to see if they take some swings on the tee, or if they do soft toss drills, or swing with one hand.

Batting practice during Spring Training is a very important time for all players. This is where you get mentally conditioned to hit.

In my book “Conditioned to Hit” I go over some of the simple mental drills that helped me prepare during Spring Training…..because Line Drives Are Always on My Mind!

Stay Focused and watch how professionals prepare to hit.
